    "To know him was to love him," Williams' father recalled. The Navy steelworker third class attended Mercy Technical High School before learning carpentry and then joining the Navy in. March 1966. Williams loved sports, especially scuba diving, and spent many days diving in quarries and lakes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 6 in Vietnam. Williams died on Aug. 9, 1967. He was 24 years old. Survivors included his parents.
