  • The Freedom Hill Quarry development appeared from the northeast as shown in early December 1967, just prior to turning over operation of the facility to RMK-BRJ. After turn-over, NMCB-9 began development of the Hill 494 quarry northeast of Da Nang
  • The western slope of Hill 494, proposed virgin site for NMCB-9's development of a major quarry, rock crushing facilities, and cantonment, appeared as shown in December 1967.
  • The first NMCB-9 convoy from the staging point at NMCB-121's Camp Campbell, Phu Bai, mounted out on 28 January 1968 to occupy the proposed quarry site in virgin territory near Hill 494.

  • Fifteen line bunkers of sand-filled plywood cavity wall construction were built along the perimeter of the quarry site
  • A backhoe was used to expedite construction of fortifications as NMCB-9's Detail Echo strove to consolidate their hold on the Hill 494 quarry site
  • The Camp DeShurley Rock Production Facility shown from the northeast nearing completion in May 1968. Pioneer trails in the upper right hand corner indicate the area in which new quarry faces were to be developed ny NMCB-71
