Where the tree is located stood a wall separating the courtyard in two...Marines on one side, Viet Cong on the other. A young Marine was readying a mortar set to zero windage. An Officer told the Marine the mortar would go up and come straight down on him...the Marine replied that the wind would carry it over the wall....He dropped the mortar down the tube and the wind carried it over the wall into the VC occupiers on the other side.
