• Michael (Mike) Nelson and I have been friends for over 44 years. Mike left us on October 25th, 2010. We had many fun and serious discussions about every subject imaginable; a delight to be around. We had a blast traveling across the United States In my '66 Dodge 440 Coronet on the way back to Port Hueneme and MCB-11. Our two tours to Vietnam in '66 and '67 - Mike was without any doubt a man who could keep you laughing for time on end, but had a very serious side as a brave and heroic man while performing life-saving aid as a DT, his primary job as a Corpsman under many combat attacks during our '67 Dong Ha deployment. He described to me that his '68 Quang Tri deployment was equally challenging.
Mike retired from the Bangor (Maine) Fire Department after 20 years of public service serving as paramedic, fireman, and engineer. He was involved with meeting returning military flights from Iraq at the Bangor Airport and participated in other Veteran activities.
Mike's favorite subjects were stupid politicians which made him a celebrity for his humorous freedom of speech on a Maine radio station.
Our families' best part of life was watching and knowing each other's children and how fast they have grown up to become responsible citizens and the love of our wonderful and talented wives of over 40 years. We'd meet every five years somewhere to celebrate our wedding anniversaries.

Michael Nelson will be deeply missed by all who have known him and especially me for the years of friendship across the miles.
With deepest sympathy,
